New tools to study the dynamics of RNA and RNP distribution in neuronal cells

The localization of mRNA within cells is an important regulatory mechanism for example in neuronal cells where regulated localization and regulated local translation in specific synaptic compartments maintain or modify synaptic transmission. The major goal of this proposal is to provide new tools to study the role of specific miRNAs in local translation and synaptic plasticity in dendrites. These probes will allow to study miRNAs under electrophysiological stimulation or reversibly sequester miRNAs upon light stimulation to allow both spatial and temporal control of miRNA function.
